How to Test RFID blocking Ability of Your Wallet
This could be that moment when you find yourself wondering ‘how do I know if my wallet is RFID blocking?’ There are logistics involved when trying to find out whether the RFID shield in your wallet works. You need a reader first.
However, buying an RFID reader to test your wallet is not practical and does not make economic sense. Fortunately, there is another way to test your wallet’s RFID blocking without having to buy a reader.
That option is your smartphone.
There applications from PlayStore and Apple store that will turn your smartphone into an RFID reader. You need to search in your apps store for ‘NFC apps.’ Select those with a high number of downloads, high ratings and positive reviews from other users.
But for your smartphone to be turned into an RFID reader with these applications, it has to be NFC-enabled. Generally, more expensive smartphones tend to have higher chances of having this feature than cheaper models.
Also, newer models are more likely to have the feature than old ones.
More Android smartphones are NFC-enabled than there are iPhones. In fact, only iPhone 6 and newer models of Apple phones are NFC-enabled. And only iOS 11 is really effective.
I cannot give a comprehensive list here of NFC-enabled smartphones. But the process of finding out if your has the feature is an easy one. All you have to do is to download one of the NFC apps from the apps store.
If your phone is not NFC-enabled, the app will alert you about it.
It is important to point out that the range that an NFC-enabled smartphone covers are very limited. You may have to bring your wallet within a few centimeters from the phone to get a signal.
